adaptive technology

The adaptive technology that I found to be the most interesting was the braille machine. It was wonderful how you could scan a book or a test and then make it into braille for the student. If I were to have a student who had this problem the test could be given to them in braille, so the could review it. You could also provide the student with chapter reviews that are in braille. In the end it would be the same as was descried to us, the student would read the test in braille then give his test answers to a scribe. This way the teacher can grade the test because he probably does not know how to read braille. I thought that the Student Support Services were astonishing and I could not believe all that is done. In a few years it seems that technology is going to create an even playing field for people with disadvantages.

Bullying website

For some reason this did not end up in my first bullying post. http://www.stopbullyingnow.com/ is a website that helps with the issues.

Bullies

Glenn Coyne

Bullies, we have all been there in some way. We all seen someone getting bullied or maybe bullied are selves, but we do not normal stand up for the people getting bullied. We have seen the hurt that bullies cause and the consequences that can happen when kids get push to hard. We need to ask ourselves some important question about the make up of bullies and what can be done. This is something that can affect you the rest of your life it not just something that happens in high school.
What is a bully? According to Webster dictionary a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people. We know what a bully is now why bully someone? We sometimes do it with out even thinking that we are bulling someone. We are scared of things that are different then us. Other Bullies have not really learned to share and like things done their way. Jealous is another big reason. These are what and why but other thing make up bulling.
Anyone can get bullied for anything. We do not like to get bullied and this make us want to get back. Due to this aspect events like Columbine happen. Middle school is where the highest level of bulling goes on. This is because this is the time when we are trying the hardest to fix in an act as bystanders afraid to challenge the bully. One person called them mirror less master of menaces because he could not understand how they looked at themselves. Up to 160,000 students miss school a day in fear of bully. There are also consequences for being a bully. At an extreme you have school shooting and other violence to that matter, but less act happen as well for the most part girls talk and boys hit.
As teachers we must not allow bulling no good can come of it. One thing we can tell people is not to act back with violence. You can educate the parents and of course step up and help. To allow bulling can end lives and keep others in fear. Schools is where bulling is the strongest, an as teachers we need to do all that we can to make sure as little as possible happens. The best way I can see is to educate let them know all that bulling brings, then question them to think why they would feel the need to do it in the first place.

Games, Virtual Reality, and Simulations

As I explored for Games, Virtual Reality, and Simulations I stumbled across many types online. When I was become familiar will some of the programs, I notice there is a lot of uses. They can be used to boost the interest of the students in the subject. Students can also explore the programs at their own pace and interest level. This is effective because we are going to have students of different levels in the classroom. A high learning student will be able to quickly pick up the material and move at their pace and the slow at his pace. This will be more effect then teaching a lesson to the middle and losing the other groups. You can make the program a supplement to the lesson and still hold students accountably for the information gathered. Besides doing all of the fore mentioned the programs can be fun and create competition between students, for the ones that like that. Games, Virtual Reality, and Simulations have many practical purposes, we need to simply explore and discover.

Tech in the Classroom

Podcasting & Aggregators
I think that podcasting is something great that everyone should take part in. I feel that it adds so much to the way that we do things. I know for a fact that people have lessons that you can take and play for the students. Podcasting is blowing up and if I has many practical adaptations for a social studies setting. As far as the students go they love new things and will take to it, you could also play a lesson when a sub comes in. This is stuff that is here to stay. The fact that you can get so much information in one deal is great. It is new technology and like any new technology it can be overwhelming.

Broadcasting, Cable, the Internet, and Beyond

This is an article that talks about all of the technological developments that we have gone threw. It starts with the development of connecting America and the role that ISP played in this role. We will get the birth of the World Wide Web and things, as we know it will be forever changed. They tell us about plugs and emails and how widely used they are. Portals are thing like Google and yahoo and we have all heard of these. They hit upon the huge impact that peer-to-peer sharing has had on us. The webs is change how we work we get our, news from the web, our movies, everything.

It is great to see how all of this stuff came to be it gives us a better understanding of the technology that we used. When I tell a student to go to Google and find something I know why and how it came to be. As far as the internet is concerned it is to big to be going anywhere anytime soon but up. There is going to be more and more information that is going to be on the net. Which will allow us as teachers to give students more option to explore. That is what history is exploring the past
